The Verge reports that Twitter user @h0x0d has been digging around and found a new “gamemode.dll” file in the latest leaked version of the operating system. The dll seems to be part of a new gaming mode functionality, which will allow Windows 10 to control the CPU and GPU to allocate more system resources for the game you’re playing. Instead of just balancing resources with other applications running in the background.
Windows 10 Game Mode transforms your PC into a console
The new “Windows 10 Game Mode” will essentially allow computers to behaves more like a game console. This is just another welcome feature, in addition to 4K gaming and Dolby Atmos sound support, Beam integration to offer in-game broadcasting, we already know are coming with the Creators Update and bring Xbox and PC gaming closer together. Previously, we’ve even heard the rumor of Microsoft working to integrate a similar Xbox One dashboard into Windows 10. While the news of “game mode” doesn’t necessarily mean that we’ll see the Xbox dashboard in the Windows 10 Creators Update, it’s signals the company paying serious attention to PC gaming. The company hasn’t publicly announced the new gaming experience, but we’re getting closer to the release of the next version of the operating system, and we’re likely to see the improvements in upcoming test previews of the Creators Update.
