Microsoft says that the next build of Windows 10 for phones will bring the operating system to more devices, as the first public release only supported six Lumia phones. Windows 10 Technical Preview build 10041 finally heads over to the Slow ring of updates and the company makes the ISO available for download. This new build also brings Cortana to more countries and new multi-finger and touch gestures are also coming to the operating system. The software giant announces this week that OneDrive will stop being an app and it will just become part of Windows 10. Microsoft reveals that Project Spartan is getting help from Adobe to add new features into the next web browser for Windows, and it’s also partnering with major web entities to make the software more compatible with web technologies. The new web browser will also make use of the new Edge rendering engine exclusively, while Internet Explorer will continue to exist a little longer as is, only to provide legacy support. This week Microsoft makes deal with a number of phone makers to pre-install Office, OneDrive and Skype on more Android devices to further penetrate the usage of the company’s software and services on the mobile market, which is an area Windows has struggled to be relevant for years. Big news this week, the software giant finally finds a suitable name for its apps. Before we used to called them Metro, Modern and even Universal apps, but now Microsoft says that moving forward they will be simply called “Windows apps”, which is a name people will easily recognize and understand what platforms are supported. Microsoft is reportedly working on a new Surface tablet that ditches Windows RT and it may launch later this year. Surface Pro 3 receives important system firmware update, which brings support for enterprise disk encryption, adds new security settings, and brings configurable support for provisioning scenarios. Second Xbox One April system update rolls out as preview adding voice messaging, party chat improvements, and more personalized “What’s On” area. Microsoft also reveals that will be doubling the amount of games, to a total of six, for Xbox Live Gold subscribers for the month of April.
