For movie enthusiasts can be a little bit complicated and time consuming to track and organize all their movies with all the details. Movie Explorer is a standalone free software — currently in beta — that is capable of scanning your computer (My Videos folder) for movies and organize them in a simple database. It retrieves movie covers and meta data information, such as movie name, genre, length, movie overview, main actors, directors, etc., which are obtained from iMDB. If you don’t store your movies in the My Videos folder you can easily modify the settings and add a new location, for example, another internal or external hard drive. Movie Explorer do not require to be installed, it just runs when you double-click the executable program file. It is a Windows only application and it is compatible with Windows 2000 and greater. Once you launch the application and you have everything organized, you can start the movie right from this application that will do it from the default video player in your Windows PC. This Windows application also has a handy search box to quickly find your movie and you can do a search by year, title, genre, and director. As I mentioned above, this application is on the beta stages and sometimes it could make little mistakes identifying a movie, but it is pretty easy to correct the issue; other than that this is a great Windows application that you should give a try when dealing with a big movie collection.
