Although, the new discount is set to expire before the end of the month, Microsoft seems to be centered on price cuts to boost sales of its first generation of tablets, and it will not be a surprise if the price cut becomes permanent. Microsoft has also recently suggested that the next generation of Surface is on the works. The word in the street is that the company plans to update the Surface Pro models with Intel’s Haswell processor and it’s also prototyping a new Surface RT with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor. Also the company is expected to release new Surface accessories, including a new battery pack built into a keyboard cover. The new Surface Pro prices are as follows:
Surface Pro 64GB model — $799 Surface Pro 128GB model — $899
You can find the new discounts at the Microsoft Store, but the new prices also appear in other electronic retail stores, such as Best Buy and Staples in the US. According to a new report from The Verge, Microsoft has confirmed the price cut. “We’ve been seeing great worldwide success with Surface RT pricing and keyboard-cover promotions over the past several months and are proud to offer Surface Pro at more affordable prices starting today.” Update: As August 29th, 2013, Microsoft has decided to make the Surface Pro price cut permanent. This news also follows the recent Surface RT $150 price cut and $40 reduction on Touch Covers from $119. Basically, the only thing left to cut prices on is in the Type Cover.
