Fear not, Apple is aware of the issue (and has already pulled the update, so the issue doesn’t spread), but if you decided that you needed the latest and greatest, and you installed Apple’s iOS 8.0.1 update, you’re probably sorry, but there is a workaround on the issue that can get your phone working again, and best of all, you don’t have to start from scratch by wiping any of your data, simply follow the steps below.

Instructions

  1. Head over to ipsdownloader.com and download a copy of Apple’s iOS 8.0 (the original). Select your device and model. This shouldn’t be hard as there is only one firmware for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

  2. Grab your iPhone, go to Settings > iCloud > Find My iPhone and turn off the service. (Your Apple ID and password will be required to perform this action.)

  3. Plug your iPhone on your PC or Mac, launch iTunes, and click the “iPhone” button from the source menu on the top-right.

  4. Click the “Check for Update” button while holding Control on Windows or Option on Mac. Then you’ll be able to pick the firmware you downloaded previously (it’s an .ipsw file), and click OK. At this point your Apple headset will start installing the iOS 8.0 as an upgrade, but without changing any data or settings in your phone. To make sure you follow the instructions correctly, go to the device about menu and you can confirm you are now running iOS 8.0. Apple is currently investigating the issue and it’s more than likely that an update will be available to permanently solve the issue with iOS 8.0.1, in the meantime you can use this workaround to get the phone back up and running.
